Just yesterday we had someone post updated code for defrag, almost all the missing stuff that was in XP tree has been ported now.

Started looking into updating with WRK/SP1 too, looks like it should be possible, but they removed a lot of debug/IA64 code & other neat stuff from the WRK release too, probably have to compare file by file and copy shit back into it.
(also seems they ran spell-check on the code, lots of spelling corrections in comments, makes comparing stuff a little annoying...)

Well, no one said WRK was a just-drop-in replacement for Leak's kernel. MS trimmed it enough (non-critical comments, ia64 code, etch) to make it suitable as learning material for colleges, and the rest was supplied as object files.
WRK will help big step to get the Kernel to SP1 levels, but isn't a direct replacement for the leaked kernel code.

Not code, but you would use ReactOS to help you understand some NT mechanisms, as it has less code thus is simpler to follow. You can also use it to make module crosstesting , thus isolating parts you couldn't due all the stuff running in windows itself.

PD: Just don't use it to crosscheck memory management mechanisms... Theirs is a halfbacked hack... If someone wants to play some low level system programming, he would like to try and port Mm module to ReactOS, and see how is taken by the rest of the modules :-P. Simpler codebase with a good memory management would be helpful to test the rest of the leaked codebase, in order to understand it and be able to update it in the future to SP2 levels.

yeah no difference after postbuild, still had that weird pdb path difference
adding that linker_flag stuff to sources file worked to get rid of it, so we can compare them easier at least, don't really think MS used it like this though, it doesn't seem like any other 2k3 projects use it anyway

then again it seems almost all the files have this pdb difference when comparing against retail 2k3, maybe their build machine would add this linker_flag as an env variable before building the whole tree or something?

Figured it out, using batch files to call rc16 seems to have a weird issue with ; and = characters, treats whatever comes after as a new param instead of the same one
eg. the command
>rc16 -i ..\inc;..\rinc whatever.rc
seems to become
>rc16 -i ..\inc ..\rinc whatever.rc
so it treats ..\rinc as the input name, giving that error
unfortunately I think the batch file is needed to run 16-bit rc16 as msdos32 has issues wrapping the EXE, maybe will have to edit the makefile of whatever had this error to run msdos32 directly

That would also require us adding an appropriate line to tools/BuildMachines.txt, for example using a command like this:
echo %COMPUTERNAME%,primary,%_BuildBranch%,%_BuildArch%,%_BuildType%,ntblus > tools\BuildMachines.txt
Note: this replaces the original BuildMachines.txt if present

(with "officialbuild", we can probably safely disable the "capturesourcefilelist" and "submit_public" postbuild scripts, since we can't run them properly anyway)

This guy has some insights on how to run modern software with Windows XP. He does prove this with Python 3.7 version, which is deemed incompatible.

"If we try to start any new application on XP, we’ll get an error message informing us that it is not a valid Win32 application. This happens because of some fields in the Optional Header of the Portable Executable."

He goes on to say by updating these fields and remapping API calls to a new library he got it to run.

"My plan was to create a fake kernel32.dll, called xernel32.dll, containing forwarders for most APIs and real implementations only for the missing ones. Here's a script to create C++ files containing forwarders for all APIs of common DLLs on Windows 10"

Can someone that's finished a successful full build check if they have any MIDL2346 warnings in build.log?
On win10 x64 I'm getting

welp, fixed most of the main issues building under x64 but there's still weird transient errors showing up each build run, one run rc16 will work without any issue, then next run I'll get a bunch of them erroring over not being able to include files that exist, shit like that
probably an issue with msdos-player, maybe it's not very thread-safe or something. if I can't get anywhere maybe I'll look into that dosbox method another anon posted here

not bad, postbuild mostly worked

msitoddf needed a fix to handle x64 syswow64 folder though, also fixed a bug in there where they forgot to close MSI handle, which made it hang on my win10 box

the msidb mentioned in postbuild.err shows this box during postbuild though, which stalls it till you close it, guess it's also stopping the uddi files being created too, anyone have any ideas about that? file isn't set to read-only afaik...

late here now though, I'll do another test run tomorrow, and then maybe update build-win2k3 guide+zip with it

You can also use Tor directly, if you have Tor Browser installed.
I think it sets up on socks5h://localhost:9150 by default.

Then you have to configure your remote

For a time, someone leaked part of the OS/2 sources... That's from were ArcaNoae and Serenity Systems devs got their "knowledge" to learn how to "update" OS/2. Unfortunately, not one seemed to save it, so it got lost. Who knows, maybe someone has a copy saved somewhere, but no motivation to releak it.

Think I've solved pretty much all the building issues under x64 now, anyone here able to test it out before I update build-win2k3 with it?

I've only tried under win10 x64, would be nice to try it under other x64 OS's

readme.md should explain how to use it, it's mostly the same as building under x86, except you have to copy the _x64 folder manually, and make sure to use razzle64 instead of razzle.
I had some problems using a shortcut to run razzle, maybe a win10 thing, but admin command-prompt worked fine

Yeah seems like it's something to do with that, you did use razzle64 to start razzle right?

That should use msdos-player's convert feature to convert 16-bit masm.exe to 32-bit, seems that tends to make stuff a little unstable though, using .bat to launch it instead usually works a bit better, I'll give that a try in a little bit

The return code '0xc0000417' might mean it does exist, but conversion has problems, I fixed that by changing to bat with a different tool, maybe it'll work here too

Hm, so it is converting masm.exe fine it seems, at least we can rule that out.
If you try running masm.exe directly, does that show any error or anything? It should bring up a box like pic related.

Also I just realised we do use a native 32-bit version of masm inside the ole16 tools-fix, maybe that will help. There's still the issues with the other tools though...

Wonder if maybe "The system is unable to load the program." means something blocked it, you ran your razzle as admin I'm guessing? Maybe AV did something with the file or something stupid like that.
I've ran all my builds with defender turned off (since it makes cab extracting a lot quicker), maybe that's something to do with it...

Weird that msdos-player would run it fine for me but not you, wonder what'd cause that.
mkpublic (the other app that errored for you) also has this crap inside it. I'll try seeing if using native 32-bit versions of those will work for us.

Anyway I'm trying a build with some 32bit masm/mkpublic files I found, hopefully we can replace the msdos-player version with these, should fix most of the errors you had I think.

The renaming stuff is because of winXP/win7+ differences, some of the files only need to be changed under win7+, XP can use the original fine

Tho admittedly, I just broke that by making it always use the updated masm/mkpublic even if it's not 64-bit in the pack I just posted, lol

I could probably move those in the _x64 folder, but not sure, 32-bit masm might give a speedup compared to the 16-bit stuff, since 32-bit ppl won't have to go through NTVDM, hm..

Build complete, no errors using 32-bit masm/mkpublic, hope it goes well for you too.

Think I will move the updated stuff to _x64 folder only, we don't really know much about this masm/mkpublic, just that it came from the Sizzle pack, if 32-bit people can use the originals fine, may as well let them.

We do have the masm code available to us to build, but it creates a completely different file to the sizzle masm, seems that 386 can't be disabled in our masm code without errors, so I'm guessing Sizzle one was maybe customised to fix those & allow 16-bit only? not sure.
(Maybe sizzle one isn't even 16-bit only, but it is still 100KB bigger than any masm we can build tho...)

You could try

>copy rc16.bat as fixexe.bat
>open fixexe.bat in notepad, replace all rc16 to fixexe (ctrl+h to search&replace)

I think its was a file that's been compiled during build but could have been corrupted, as size on disk was 0 yet the file was 4kb.. trying with renaming the file for now to see if it gets compiled okay this time (I think it is unrelated to building on x64)

Huh, never had that error so didn't replace that file
Might be able to fix it by going to printscan\faxsrv\print\faxprint\faxdrv\win9x\sdk\binw16 & renaming the exes to end with .16.exe, then copy rc16.bat into that folder for both exes, rename to rc.bat / rcpp.bat, and edit the bat to point to the .16.exe
I'll probably post an updated pack tomorrow, late here now and I need to find a way to test that myself too etc, thanks for letting me know
